One of my New Year's resolutions for 2005 was to drive less. It was almost as if by conscience that sometime in February gas prices began to climb. Luckily I had already completed this goal and was well on my way toward riding the bus to and from work from the first of the year until the middle of May.
I learned some interesting things about human behavior and myself and built upon an important life skill... using public transportation. After I had reverted back to driving (my work-load had picked up and the bus schedule was no longer workable) there were several times the bus riding knowledge came in handy.

Ok, I actually finished this item earlier in the year, but I'm marking the completed date as the day I sold my house because everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was paid off by this date. List of things I paid off shortly before or shortly after I sold my house include:
- Austin property taxes for 2005
- Auto insurance until 2/2007
- My mortgage
- Both of my credit cards, even the one with a balance at 0% APR
- A $5 charge on my University of Texas account for a vaccine
- Three months of pre-paid storage rental fees for my moved furniture

| Thus
far this site has mostly focused on items I have completed in the past.
My plan is to catch up with where I am currently on my list. This completed item is one I hadn't planned on writing about until much later in the
life of this web log... but I suppose now is as good a time as any.

Apparently some original recruits in "Operation
Anti-Commando" went MIA during my recent move. This fact became clearer
to me this morning as I folded my laundry from last night. I noticed a need
to re-supplement my currently supply for a healthy rotation.
Prior to the September completion of this item, I had three drawers full of
items I never wore. I have since thrown out those articles and have
focused my attention on two particular brands. Needless to say, laundry
day and early mornings have become much more streamlined.

Item Completed 12/15/2005 (kind of)
The last time I visited my dentist in Austin
he informed me that despite the recommended treatment advice they had been
giving me for the past three years, I do not require a night tooth guard (for
grinding my teeth).
Apparently the effects of my tooth wear is not from tooth grinding but from
acid reflux... which sounds pretty gross, but it saves me $350 for the tooth
guard, and I have to be more careful about what I eat before bedtime.
So I am officially marking this off my list... even though I did not actually
do it, I did follow-up to my satisfaction.

My parents bought a new rice cooker because the non-stick coating had worn off
the inside container of their old one. My dad thoughtfully asked me if I
wanted their old one... knowing the sushi goal loomed on my to-do list, I accepted.
My dad was able to locate the original owner manual and I called the
manufacturer of the old rice cooker and ordered a replacement non-stick
container. Two weeks and $10 dollars later I was up and running.
Sushi is one food I didn’t like growing up, but slowly learned to love. The goal to make my own sushi made my list
shortly after I attended a sushi workshop during the summer of 2005 so I
already knew the ingredients required for sushi and the technique involved... a
quick trip to the local Asian market and a fine grocer for the fish I was ready
to "roll my own" in no time.
I started with the fishless Philly Roll to test my skills. The second
batch I used crab meat. By this time I had the technique down I pulled
out the raw fish and began making actual sushi. It turned out really
well. My favorite part of sushi is the way the rice tastes with seaweed
and how those tastes are complimented by the wasabi and fish.
